Industrial Wood Chipper - Saalasti Chipper H
A horizontal feed biomass chipper for chipping and crushing various kinds of biomass.
A horizontal feed biomass chipper for chipping and crushing various kinds of biomass.
The Saalasti Chipper H industrial wood chipper is the world’s first high-capacity stationary chipper for onsite use. The Chipper H is used at various kinds of high-capacity facilities, such as biomass terminals, power plants, and pellet factories.
Saalasti’s extensive experience and continuous product development with our customers guarantees reliability and durability.
The Chipper H is used at various kinds of high-capacity facilities, such as biomass terminals, power plants, and pellet factories.
The Saalasti Chipper H biomass chipper is suitable for power plants, biomass terminals and other high-capacity applications where precise particle size handling and high reliability are essential.
Typical raw materials include logs, bales of dry branches, loose branches, thinnings, and tops of trees. The Saalasti Chipper H is suitable for a wide range of applications, as the particle size is adjustable and the capacity can be easily increased by increasing the motor power.
Typical raw materials include logs, bales of dry branches, loose branches, thinnings, and tops of trees.
The Saalasti Chipper H is equipped with our Multitool rotor for easy changing of the chipper or crusher knives depending on the material to be processed. This allows the customer to use a greater variety of materials. The value of Saalasti’s Multitool rotor becomes especially clear from a long term perspective, as power plants do not usually use the same raw material throughout their lifetime.
Thanks to the horizontal feed conveyor, the material to be processed can be unloaded directly from the trucks to the machine – even from two trucks at the same time. Depending on the capacity selected (150–600 loose m3 per hour (P63)), from three to six loads can be unloaded per hour. Once the material is loaded onto the feeder, the biomass chipper’s powerful rotor processes it to the desired particle size. The particle size can be optimized to the customer’s needs, and can be easily changed between P32 and P100.
Although the investment costs of a stationary onsite chipper are higher, the lower operating costs compensate for this. This makes a stationary chipper more cost-effective than a mobile chipper.
by contrast, the portability of a mobile chipper and its lightweight design result in shorter service life
vs. a mobile chipper often requires more frequent maintenance cycles due to its lightweight design and parts
by contrast, mobile chippers are often equipped with a high-consumption diesel engine
Based on the above factors, there is a significant difference in the cost of chipping equipment. After taking depreciation into account, the cost of an onsite chipper is €0.50 per MWh, and the cost of a mobile chipper can be as high as €2.20 per MWh. We discuss the price differences between onsite mobile chippers in more detail in the article below.
For Saalasti, customers always come first. We go to great lengths to build up loyal partnerships with our customers that will last decades.

FAQ
The Chipper H biomass chipper is designed to withstand stones and other impurities and contaminants. The powerful rotor of the machine easily crushes smaller stones along with the other material. If large stones or metal pieces enter the machine, the safety mechanism is activated to shut off the machine so the objects can be removed to prevent damage to the machine.
Our machines are also equipped with metal detectors to help prevent such problems. When the metal detector is activated, the machine shuts off the material feed, allowing the metal to be safely removed by reversing the feed conveyor.
The lifetime of Saalasti’s Chipper H biomass chippers is measured in decades. They are designed according to pulp and paper industry standards to withstand the demands of continuous industrial production. Saalasti machines are so robust and long-lived that in some cases, they have outlasted the production facilities they were used at and were transferred to new production locations.
Yes. The Saalasti Chipper H biomass chipper has a Multitool rotor that can be equipped with crushing or chipping knives depending on the material to be processed. The knives can be changed in as little as 45 minutes, so the machine can easily be converted even daily if necessary.
In addition to common wood-based biomass, the Chipper H is also suitable for processing exotic foliage, fossilized wood, and rubber trees.
